The Auckland Kindergarten Association is contracted to deliver the Incredible Years Teacher (IYT) programme on behalf of the Ministry of Education. Teachers enrolled are coached in the use of positive strategies to support children to overcome behavioural patterns which can result in hurdles/barriers to learning and engagement.  The programme is completely non-punitive and strongly supports and promotes the development of social competence and resilience in our tamariki, resulting in them becoming intrinsically motivated to set goals for themselves and persevere. It is of course highly respectful to them, their whānau and the wider community in general.

The Incredible Years Teacher programme is delivered free of charge. Teachers need to be currently teaching children in their kindergarten/centre.  Resources (text book, folder and handouts) as well as catering are also provided at no cost to the kindergarten/centre. The Ministry also funds employing organisations with $1,000.00 plus GST for each teacher enrolled, which is a contribution towards teacher release costs. (Please note – the enrolled teacher needs to be part of the regular adult ratio to receive release costs funding.)

Teachers are required to attend six, full day workshops which are spread approximately three weeks apart.  This is to provide time for teachers to implement the strategies covered in each workshop. All workshops are held at Myers Park, Queen Street, Auckland City and also from Ramada Suites, Albany.

The Auckland Kindergarten Association welcomes teachers to our workshops. For information on programme dates, enrolment and general enquiries, please contact us by email at IYTeachers@aka.org.nz.  We look forward to hearing from you!
