Kia ora and welcome to Sturges Road Kindergarten

At Sturges Road Kindergarten relationships are the core of our teaching philosophy. This creates an environment where real and relevant connections are established and maintained, fostering strong, trusting relationships.

A place to belong – We provide an open friendly environment where our whānau/families and children/tamariki build a strong sense of belonging, contributing their knowledge, expertise, experiences and cultures with our kindergarten community. We are a culturally diverse kindergarten and love to celebrate our various cultures, enjoying special events with our whānau.

A place of calm – Our Zen Zone provides a warm, homely, soothing, peaceful area for tamariki to relax in. Our morning ritual of warm fruit tea provides tamariki with a sense of calm. Our loose parts resources provide tamariki with open ended magical learning opportunities.

Environment as a third teacher – We are proud of the environment we have created and provide a wide range of resources and experiences where tamariki thoughts, feelings and working theories are valued and respected. Our learning spaces are responsive to tamariki development, allowing them to challenge themselves safely through risky play, enhancing their life-long learning skills.

Connection with Papatunuku and nature – We encourage children to be kaitiaki/guardians of our kindergarten environment. Tamariki enjoy tending, growing and harvesting fresh produce in our vegetable garden.

Bush kindy – Tamariki develop confidence and explore in nature at our Bush Kindy experience at neighbouring Western Heights Primary. Tamariki are encouraged to push their boundaries, take risks, indulge their imagination and be at one with nature.

Healthy bodies, healthy minds – Our kindergarten has the Heart Foundation Pā Harakeke award for creating an environment that promotes healthy eating and physical activity.

School connections – Our strong relationship with our neighbouring primary school Western Heights supports tamariki transition to school. We attend their weekly junior Jump Jam sessions and other celebrations and events through-out the year.

We welcome you to visit us so you can experience the magic of Sturges Road Kindergarten.
