Kia ora and welcome to Papatoetoe North Kindergarten

Located in a quiet residential cul-de-sac Papatoetoe North Kindergarten is a small, friendly kindergarten providing exceptional education and childcare for 30 children aged 2 to 5 years old. We offer 20 hours free childcare every week for all ages.

Belonging – We celebrate our cultural diversity and the dual heritage of Aotearoa by reflecting this in all aspects of kindergarten life. The principle of manaakitanga/hospitality and caring for others guides us, providing an environment that is warm, welcoming and inclusive of all children, their families and community.

Leading learning – Children learn best through play, building connections and relationships with those around them and the environment. Children’s strengths and interests are the key motivator for children becoming effective learners. We use the principle of mana/authority in recognition of children’s ability to contribute to their own learning. This principle also guides us in the knowledge that children are taonga/ treasures for their families and represent the aspirations of the whānau.

Learning spaces – We have a large outdoor environment, with a number of learning spaces providing children with ample space to play independently or alongside others. We are well resourced to ignite young learners’ minds with a wide range of resources and activities designed to stimulate learning, building skills and confidence for our children to challenge themselves.

Supportive – The principle of whanaungatanga/kinship is used to support children in building their relationships. When we work together we learn valuable skills we will continue to develop as we grow. Our strong Parent Whānau Group support and contribute to this, working together on our learning programme and operations.

Learning journey – We make sure that the learning environment is responsive and meaningful to children and their families by taking our lead from children’s emerging interests and considering how we can support and extend their learning. Recognizing that as educators we are on a learning journey, we regularly take part in ongoing professional development. This ensures we are continually focusing on providing the very best learning environment for our children.

We welcome you to come and visit us, we’d love to show you around our kindergarten so you can see what a great place it is for your child.

  • WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

My grandson Mason has been going to Papatoetoe North Kindergarten for the last two years and five months, and over this period of time I have watched the teachers work with the kids.  They put a lot of pride, love and care towards the kids. It warms my heart to see how much effort they put into their job to ensure that all the kids are safe and well looked after. I also notice how they document every incident at school and how they let the parents know. I take my hat off to these wonderful ladies for putting 100% effort in looking after our children while in their care. Parents can rest assured for the safety of their children in these teachers' hands. Well done Cecilia, Zeenat, Mata, Marilyn, Marie and Snesh.

  • WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

My daughter has attended Papatoetoe North Kindy for the last 3 years. When my daughter started kindy she was very shy and scared, Tania had very little English because we come from Chile and speak mainly Spanish at home.  Since her time at kindy she has learnt a lot of English and she is very happy. Tania has made lots of friends. The teachers are very caring and loving to not just my Tania but to all the children in their care.  I have been on several library visits with Cecilia and the other teachers. They always make sure us parents understand our responsibilities while walking to and from the library. I have noticed how the children are happy and always say "Hi!" to everyone who enters the kindy. I have also noticed the great communication the teachers have towards each other and parents/whānau. I am very happy my Tania is now happy to go to big school. Cecilia has been very kind and supportive towards my family and I.  During the 2020 COVID lockdown and again last year Cecilia went out of her way to drive me to support agencies so that my family and I could make ends meet. I am very thankful to Cecilia and her team Zeenat, Mafa, Marilyn, Marie and Snesh.
