Kia ora and welcome to Marlborough Kindergarten

A place to belong We provide a welcoming, friendly and safe environment where tamariki and their whānau are able to build a strong sense of belonging, with an understanding that Marlborough Kindergarten is their special place.  We respond to Whānau aspirations for their tamariki and work together in partnership for their child.  We are a multicultural, diverse community and love to celebrate special cultural festivals with whānau, as learning about diversity helps to build an understanding and respect for all people.

Connections to Nature/Papatūānuku  We are beside a reserve and have a wonderful natural environment with large areas of grass, bush, trees and plants.  Our tamariki enjoy nature and we encourage them to be kaitiaki/guardians of our environment and grow food to eat, share and to feed our resident guinea pig pets.  We are a part of the Enviroschool programme and are working towards our Green/Gold Status.  Our children learn for sustainability – rethinking, reducing, reusing, recycling and composting/worm farm.  Children are empowered to become leaders and to teach others and their whānau.

Māori perspectives We weave Māori perspectives into our everyday practice and thinking. We value the positive relationships we build with our whānau.  We have a beautiful carved wharenui that represents our community for our tamariki to play in.  We learn about and respect Te Ao Māori, Māori spirituality, tikanga, te reo, stories and waiata.

Learning through playThrough play we support children to develop skills such as literacy, numeracy, problem solving, social and emotional skills, communication, self-regulation and resilience.  We encourage children to be curious, to wonder, be creative and challenge themselves – to have a love of learning.

Transition to school   We support tamariki to be confident to transition to school.  We have a strong connection with Marlborough Primary School, Willow Park School, Sunnybrae Normal School and Windy Ridge School. Once a term our older children visit Marlborough Primary School to familiarise themselves with a school environment.  We are an active member of the Kaipātiki Kāhui Ako/Community of learning.

Our tamariki attend kindergarten from 8.30am – 2.30pm, following the school terms and holidays.

We welcome you to come and visit us, we would love to meet you and show you around our kindergarten.

Maike and I want to thank you for the kind and warm care you have given Theo over the last two years.  He has flourished into a confident little boy because of your generous attention.  He loves kindy and will miss all of you keenly.  Thank you for all the effort you do!

  • WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

I'm so happy to see Joshua playing, enjoying, interacting and cooperating with other children at school. It is completely different in comparison to the shy quiet boy when he first started. Thank you so much to the teachers for caring, teaching, encouraging, helping him. As parents, nothing could make us more proud.

  • WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

As a parent, it is incredibly heartwarming to hear Diana speak with such enthusiasm about her experiences in kindergarten.  It fills me with joy to see my child thriving in a nurturing environment, surrounded by wonderful friends and amazing teachers who provide her with love and care.  Diana shares all the new experiences she has had each day, even when she's at home, which is a true testament to the growth she has made in every possible way.  It's a blessing to witness how much she has developed and flourished.

  • WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

The facilities are excellent, with a large outdoor play area with diverse play options that also promotes fitness and athleticism. The school promotes the children learning about animals and plant life.  The teachers are friendly, caring and supportive and the learning structures the school puts in place has made a huge difference to my daughter's numeracy and literacy.  I cannot recommend Marlborough Kindergarten enough.

  • WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

We have had two children attend Marlborough Kindergarten, and are awaiting entry for our third. We can unreservedly commend the kindy for providing outstanding care for our children. They have been patient, caring, supportive and enlightening. Our children's curiousity and independence are in no small measure due to Marlborough Kindy, and we deeply appreciate what the teachers provide our community. Both of our children felt truly at home at kindy, and were entirely prepared for primary school when they turned 5. Thank you for the work AKA does.
