Kia ora, Talofa lava, Malo le lei, Kia Orana, Fakalofalahi atu, welcome to Mayfield Kindergarten

What makes us unique at Mayfield Kindergarten? “He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.” – “Tis people, tis people, tis people.”

Whanaungatanga – Relationships are at the heart of life at our kindergarten and are so important for each child’s learning journey. When we work together to support our tamariki they thrive.

In the whānau – We have been part of the community for over 20 years and have cared for 1000’s of local tamariki in the Ōtara, East Tamaki area. Many of our tamariki have whanau who have been part of our kindergarten!

Nurturing mana – Respect is given by everyone to everyone – children and adults alike, ensuring each person’s mana is respected and nurtured.

Learning through play – Our qualified and passionate team provide a quality learning programme to engage and inspire our tamariki. From water play to carpentry, arts and gardening, our tamariki enjoy a wide range of activities and experiences that support them to develop important skills and positive attitudes that will set them up for life.

Connected to the land – We are part of the Enviroschool programme where our tamariki are kaitiaki, learning to care for Papatūānuku, for example, by recycling, gardening and sharing our harvest. Encouraging Rangatiratanga (leadership) and Maanakitanga (care and kindness) is also an important part of the Enviroschool programme for us.

Community adventures – Excursions into the community are an important part of our kindy experience. Children build connections and understanding about their local area and the wider world as we adventure to places they haven’t been before. Their world opens up and the experiences they have create memories to last a lifetime.

Ready for school – We support children in developing skills for school. This helps our tamariki feel confident and excited about the next stage in their learning journey.

A malu i fale, e malu i fafo – Protection for the family, protection for all.

We welcome tamariki aged 2 – 6 years old and offer up to 35 hours free per week.  We invite you to, come and see, come and be, and share our space with us. Nau mai, haere mai!

  • WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

I highly recommend Mayfield Kindy - lovely teachers who are easy to talk to. My daughter absolutely loved it here and made lots of friends. She loved her teachers and had heaps of fun, always talked about what she did at kindy when she got home and always asked if she had kindy the next day. So if you're looking for an awesome, friendly, caring kindy where the teachers love the kids, send your kids here. My daughter was ready to go to school and we miss Mayfield kindy whanau.

It's amazing how the children love to learn how to care for the environment. They enjoy every moment they spend growing and harvesting their garden, which is incredibly challenging for me to try at home. My kids learn a lot at Mayfield kindy. Every day they learn new vocabulary and new ideas which are so amazing. Thank you to the teachers who have done incredible jobs with our children. Donna you are an inspiration when you want to do something for the kids you pour your heart into making it happen. It makes are children feel so special. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My kids always look forward to coming to Mayfield kindy every day because they enjoy every moment. Love and blessings always.

At Mayfield Kindergarten the staff and pupils are just the best and it is a great learning environment for my Poppee. She has been taught quite a lot about tikanga and finding her own Māori-dom which I greatly appreciate being Māori.

It is an amazing kindergarten, my children love it here. They have kind teachers and lots of space for the kids to play and learn as much as they can. The children here are very lovely and kind. When my son first came to kindergarten he was very small and would cry and ask for his mum. The other children would comfort him and hug him. Because of the epidemic, my son didn't go to kindergarten for a while, and when he started to go again, one of the teachers was waiting for him in the parking lot early in the morning to guide him. The teachers are really good, warm and kind. We really like it here.

Mayfield Kindergarten has the amazing staff that are always caring for our kids even during lockdown. My son has been with Mayfield Kindergarten since he was 2yrs old. This year will be his last year and will be attending Primary next year. Mayfield is a great kindergarten with great teachers and support. My son has made a lot of great progress and he talks about his learning and friends at home. From painting, gardening cooking, making crafts and cleaning not to mention cars, trains and especially field trips, my son loves them all.
Every weekday I can go to work without worrying about the safety of my child because I know Mayfield Kindergarten is a very safe environment for my son, which is why I recommended it to my family and my 2yr old niece will be starting in term 3 this year.
I am so happy that my son turned out to be a very caring child with a positive attitude. He loves all his teachers. Big Thank You to all the teachers who take good care of our children. You are all amazing. Keep up the great work.
