Kia ora and welcome to Belmont Bayswater Kindergarten

Belmont Bayswater Kindergarten is situated on a very spacious flat site, protected by our majestic oak tree and many resident Tuis.

Part of our community – We are an integral part of a diverse community with strong links to our local schools.

Enviromental focus – We’re proud to be part of the Enviroschools Programme and have recently attained our Silver Award. We value sustainable teaching and learning, supporting tamariki to develop a sense of responsibility for the living world and how to care for it. We empower tamariki to participate and initiate sustainable practices and become lifelong Kaitiaki of our kindergarten, community and wider learning environment.  We grow and eat our own vegetables, and tamariki love our worm farm!

Love literacy  – Our team has a wide range of passions including, language and culture, environmental issues and a real love for books and literacy. We run a Children’s Library on site as well as a Community Library from our front entrance. Both of these are a part of our strong Enviroschools programme.

Specialist care – Our kaiako are skilled in implementing the Incredible Years Teacher Programme which supports young children with self-regulation and their social, emotional and academic competence.

The importance of whanāu – We have respectful, strong, warm, inclusive and open relationships with our whānau. It’s important to us that our families feel a sense of belonging / whanaungatanga. We work together to support each child and enjoy having fun and celebrating together at events.

Te ao Maori – We acknowledge and honour Te tiriti o Waitangi and Te ao Maori in our daily practice. Kaiako create a positive and culturally responsive environment by weaving kaupapa Māori (values and philosophy), te reo (language) and tikanga (customs) throughout daily practice.

Practice, persist, succeed – Teachers support, encourage and plan opportunities for children to give new things a go – practice, persist, succeed! These opportunities bring to light children’s dispositions for learning, including curiosity, persistence, determination and resilience. Tamariki also support each other through tuakana teina relationships, where older or more knowledgeable tamariki help younger or less knowledgeable tamariki.

Showing kindness – It’s important for us to practice and rolemodel manākitanga by showing respect, hospitality and care for others. Children develop their social awareness and social skills – fairness, kindness/atawhai, turn taking and mahi tahi/working together – building relationships from which we all learn.

Welcome – We provide education and care for tamariki aged 2-5 years old and offer 20 hours free each week. We’re open 8.30 to 2.30pm and follow the school terms. We would love to show you around our kindergarten so you can see all the wonderful experiences and opportunities children have with us. Please drop in.
