Kia ora and welcome to Roskill South Kindergarten

At Roskill South Kindergarten our established team values create strong partnerships with whānau and also encourages deep and meaningful intergenerational relationships with the nearby Hillsborough Heights retirement village. We are proud of the strong connections that we have within the local community.

The teaching team are early childhood qualified and registered teachers. The teachers are dedicated to, and passionate about early childhood education and are extremely skilled at implementing a high-quality learning programme based on the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki. The practices used within the kindergarten are research-based and develop and strengthen learning dispositions, knowledge and skills for your children. This supports your children to be motivated learners, who love learning, and lead their learning through their interests and passions.

At Roskill South Kindergarten, we run a weekly outdoor programme called “Bush Kindergarten” at Bob Bodt Reserve, directly behind the kindergarten. This classroom without walls is where our children learn about the natural world, and opportunities for appropriate risk and challenge are promoted.

We encourage a growth mindset in ourselves as teachers, as well as the children in our care. A proud acknowledgment of this is being selected as a Centre of Innovation in 2003. The teachers participated in a three-year action research project to explore Strengthening Learning and Teaching using ICT, and were influential in inspiring teachers throughout New Zealand and beyond.

Another significant achievement included reaching the finals in the 2016 Prime Minister’s Education Excellence awards, Atahāpara – Excellence in Engaging. This is a testament to the teachers’ ongoing commitment to researching the learning and teaching practices at Roskill South Kindergarten, and their involvement in further research projects. The team continues to be leaders in their field, contribute to articles, books, facilitate workshops, and present at conferences for the wider early childhood community.
