Kia ora and welcome to Grey Lynn Kindergarten

Grey Lynn Kindergarten is one of Auckland’s oldest early childhood education providers – we celebrate 110 years in 2023! Located just off Great North Road near Bunnings Grey Lynn in the Arch Hill area of Grey Lynn, we’ve been an important hub in the community for many years.

Beautiful property – Our property spans a full block, with entrances on both Dean Street and Home Street. We’re lucky to have an incredible environment, with luscious plants and trees, an expansive playground with its own tree house, fishpond and large sandpit, all contained within a well-established garden.

Environmental focus – We have been part of the Enviroschools Programme and Kaupapa since 2006. The philosophy is strongly embedded into our culture and programme and our commitment to environmental sustainability runs through everything we do. We encourage children to develop a close connection with nature through the emphasis placed on sustaining and protecting Papatūānuku, recycling, reusing and repurposing where possible.

Experienced team – Our passionate teaching team are highly skilled, with Masters Qualifications and a commitment to deepening children’s learning, learning dispositions, knowledge and skills through play.

Learners for life – Children are encouraged to follow their interests, leading their learning through their innate curiosity of the world around them. When children are given this autonomy they develop a real sense of wonder and a thirst for knowledge. They love to make connections in their knowledge and come to view themselves as capable and competent learners.

Come and visit us at Grey Lynn Kindergarten and see for yourself the unique environment, hidden behind the façade of a 1920’s bungalow. We look forward to meeting you.

  • WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

Since being at the kindergarten I have seen Arlo thrive and grow in confidence. His initial separation anxiety was managed so beautifully by each of you and it made me feel at ease seeing the care and time you took to make him feel comfortable when I had to leave. The kindergarten is one of the most beautiful spaces I have seen and I honestly wish I was the one spending all day there. The calm energy you all bring to the kindergarten can be felt by everyone who visits. Your approach to the children’s learning is thoughtful and intentional. I love the updates on the app of the child-led learning experiences that you as teachers have encouraged and furthered. We feel so blessed that Arlo gets to go to Grey Lynn Kindergarten and we could not have dreamed of such a beautiful space and such wonderful caring teachers for him. You have made us feel so welcomed and part of the kindergarten community.

  • FROM OUR ERO REPORT

Positive and sensitive relationships help families and children to feel a sense of belonging in the kindergarten. Teachers welcome parents and children on arrival, and engage them in conversation to help them reconnect with the kindergarten.
