Kia ora and welcome to Te Atatū Village Kindergarten

Te Atatū Village Kindergarten is located right in the hub of Te Atatū Village and is an integral part of the local community, providing high-quality early childhood education and care.

A place to belong – We believe in creating a strong sense of community, where families and teachers come together and share in their children’s early years. We embrace our rich cultural diversity and through whakawhanaungatanga (building relationships), we strive to learn and grow alongside each other as a multicultural community of diverse learners.

Voice of parents – We listen to parents’ aspirations for all tamariki and strive to fulfil these. We support our whānau, working alongside them in partnership to promote the well-being of their tamariki. We have a wonderful supportive Parent Whānau Committee, who work behind the scenes with lots of passion to support Kaiako and tamariki to provide the very best resources and environment.

Space to learn and grow – We have a wonderful, natural outdoor setting for play and exploration, complete with a working vegetable garden and fruit trees for all to enjoy. We pride ourselves in providing an environment that is welcoming, vibrant, inclusive, nurturing, fun and rich in learning experiences for all.

Devoted teaching team – Our dedicated, qualified teaching team all come with their own set of skills and strengths that contribute to our dynamic team and enhance the learning environment. Our kaiako are skilled in implementing the Incredible Years Programme, which supports young children with self-regulation and their social, emotional and academic competence.

Ready for school – The children at Te Atatū Village Kindergarten transition to several local schools, predominantly Rutherford, Peninsula and Matipo Primary. We consult with these schools and work alongside them to promote the skills they consider most important for school readiness. These are woven into our planning and daily routine.

Community relationships – We have built great relationships with the wider community, including regular visits from St Margaret’s Rest Home. This promotes intergenerational learning, sharing music, movement, morning tea and having lots of fun together. Children also love Storytimes shared with our local Librarian each term. We have strong community involvement, which supports fundraising projects for equipment for the kindergarten. We, in turn, support the local food bank, food for schools and the Santa Parade.

Our friendly team welcomes you to visit and see firsthand everything we have to offer you and your child!

  • WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

My three children have all attended Te Atatu Village Kindergarten. They couldn't have had a better start to their formal learning journey. The teachers are nurturing, creative and passionate about the children, community and their centre. The centre's resources are fantastic which provide hours of creative and interactive play both indoors and outdoors. There are always new opportunities and ways for the children to express themselves and develop their sense of self and new relationships. There is also an edible garden that the children help maintain and use it as a source for their cooking and healthy eating education. We love our kindergarten.

A huge thank you from the bottom of our family's heart. Thank you all for being such wonderful, kind and caring teachers and friends to our Clara for her last two years. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful, fun and caring environment for our kids to be a part of. We will miss kindy days big time but you will always hold a special place in our lives and hearts. This is not a goodbye, but a see you soon. Thank you all so much.

  • WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

We have been a Te Atatū Village Kindergarten family since 2014 and now have our third daughter attending. We love the continuation of excellent teaching staff and the relationships our whole family has built with them, and the wonderful experiences our tamariki have had and continue to have at this well resourced, welcoming centre. Our big kids still say they wish they could go back to kindy.

  • FROM OUR ERO REPORT

Children's interests and parent input form the basis of teachers' programme planning. Often these interests lead to whole-centre experiences that teachers extend through connections with community facilities and resources.
