We are gearing up to be part of the Health Heart Award programme, so over the last month our usual baking/cooking has taken on a much healthier spin.

We have been using ingredients from our children’s garden like lettuce, rosemary, onions and silverbeet to help create sandwiches, chicken wraps and Pizza.

Teachers are eating their lunch with children and role modelling healthy eating and options for children which has promoted a lot of interest in vegetables and foods they are not familiar with and led them to try different foods.

Children have gone from being hesitant to eat some vegetables to loving them and returning for more and they cant wait for Cooking Day Wednesdays.  If they are lucky they sometimes get a Cooking Day Thursday too :).

We’d love more recipes from home and are looking forward to parents and whanau sharing some of their healthy kai with us to make at kindergarten.
