Nau mai, Haere mai
Te Atatu South Kindergarten is in the middle of the Divich Reserve, an open space bordered by trees and bush. This peaceful setting encourages children to notice and explore the natural environment and can be used for ball games and races. Our gardens, pets and planted pots allow us to extend the children’s interests in living things, and have become part of our learning about sustainable environments.
The kindergarten is very well equipped. Our outdoor slide, wooden boxes, planks and ladders can be moved and rearranged to provide children with a new physical challenge. Often the children help plan and build the obstacle courses. Children are happy and enthusiastically engaged in learning, both individually and in groups. We encourage independent learning through both child initiated play and skill based activities. Teachers place a strong emphasis in supporting children’s self-expression through the visual arts, music, drama, dance, stories and imaginative play. Literacy and mathematical learning is incorporated throughout these activities.
Our multi-cultural community supports the kindergarten in many ways. We invite families to become involved, to come on trips and to work with the children in the daily programme. Our Parent Support Group puts the fun into fundraising with discos and parties, as well as organising raffles, an annual gala and other events. Our teaching team are passionate about providing our children with the best possible early childhood education. Come and visit us to find out more.
