Hobsonville North Kindergarten is situated in a semi rural environment, surrounded by green pastures, with horses grazing nearby. This country atmosphere is reflected in our grounds with a vegetable garden, fruit trees and our own laying hens, all contributing to the learning environment.
Our programme is based on the children’s strengths and interests and is designed to encourage our children to become independent thinkers.
As teachers, we work alongside children as co-learners, valuing and respecting their ideas and contributions. We observe and assess their learning, recording these assessments informally in each child’s portfolio. We encourage and value the contribution of our parents and the wider community.
The kindergarten has developed an emphasis on emotional literacy, which encourages children to understand their own, and other’s emotions, helping children to co-operate and enjoy relationships with their peers. Our children come to the kindergarten from a wide area, which includes Whenuapai, West Harbour, Herald Island, Greenhithe, Massey East and Hobsonville.
