Henderson Kindergarten is set in an attractive location surrounded by the Opanuku Reserve.
Teachers welcome the multicultural community of families who attend from all over West Auckland.
Families have donated many beautiful cultural artefacts, which are attractively displayed and create a welcoming environment.
Children’s individual strengths and interests are encouraged and children are supported and extended to participate in a wide range of planned and emergent learning opportunities.
Children set their own goals for learning and teachers assist them to achieve positive learning outcomes. Children value their attractively presented individual folders, which record their personal learning in a way that has meaning for them.
The kindergarten is very well resourced and this enables children to explore new ideas and learning experiences.
A small and dynamic committee of parents support the teachers with maintenance, fundraising and organising social events. These events are well supported by extended family/whanau.
Children enjoy educational trips and visits from knowledgeable people. These experiences broaden the children's general knowledge of such things as Maori culture, Auckland geography and buildings, animals and physical education.
The large outdoor play area encourages a high level of active movement experiences, which helps children develop confidence and fitness. This links to the kindergarten’s food policy, which promotes healthy food choices. The families, children and teachers are proud to have earned the Heart Foundation’s Healthy Heart Award.
