At Bairds Kindergarten we honour and respect Te Tiriti O Waitangi as a living document in Aotearoa- New Zealand. We respect all cultures. We promote this respect by using different languages and children’s first languages as a tool for thought and involvement with resources, peers, children, whanau, community and the environment.
Our image of the child is one in which we view them as competent and confident learners. We believe that children’s strengths and interests are key to engaging with children. We value the holistic view of the child and ensure that we gain an understanding of their backgrounds.
We view the child as the centre point of our learning space. We encourage positive relationships between children, whanau, community and the environment. By supporting children’s exploration through scaffolding, we maintain an open learning experience. We value parent/whanau contribution through ongoing involvement and consultation. We believe that regular and meaningful assessment and evaluation of all children is vital to their ongoing learning and development. We utilise a variety of observational schedules, and are consistently reflective in our practice.
