The AKA is New Zealand’s largest kindergarten association, and also the largest education provider outside the tertiary sector. There are over 9,000 young children attending 107 public kindergartens throughout Auckland every week, up to 14,000 in a year. The kindergarten service that is provided is of the highest quality and the organisation is widely respected after 100 years of operation in the Auckland community.

At the AKA we employ fully qualified teachers, who have an early childhood teaching diploma as a minimum qualification and hold a current Teacher Registration Practising Certificate.

Teachers must be involved in professional development to maintain teacher registration status. Professional development provides teachers with new and inspirational ideas and supports teachers to remain informed about current theory and teaching practice. Most importantly, professional development influences and supports positive learning outcomes for children.

Our kindergarten environments reflect the diversity of New Zealand society, and are inclusive of and support all children and their families. Cultural diversity is celebrated for its ability to enhance and enrich the learning environment.

The AKA is a member of Early Childhood Leadership (EC Leadership).  The purpose of EC Leadership is to; represent members in the provision of high quality early childhood education (ECE), enhance the leadership capability within the membership, acknowledge and respect the dual heritage of Aotearoa/New Zealand, and unite on common goals.  EC Leadership is made up of the Auckland, Central North Island, Franklin and Waikato Kindergarten Associations.
